As with most of the Maniototo's small communities, although services such as the school and post office are closed, the community hall and the sports complex of rugby field and tennis courts are well maintained by the local community. The old school building has been restored and is now used as a private crib (holiday home). The cemetery, established in 1887 is still in use, and again, is maintained by the local community. Many descendants of original settlers in the area still live and farm in Gimmerburn and include the Blakely, Cleugh, Davis, Dougherty, Scott, and Paterson families. |
