State coeducational school providing a unified educational programme from Year 1 (new entrants) to Year 13.

Roll; 194 students

Staff; 15 Full time teachers

Motto; By Learning We Live

The School has strong tradition of academic achievement constituting an important part of the School's ethos. High teacher ratios allow full senior programmes including the unique Year 13 Craft & Design Technology class.

There is a high level of National examination success  with pass rates exceeding all other Otago Schools of its decile and one of the highest pass rates for Central Otago schools.

The School reflects the significant sporting and cultural aspirations of the Maniototo community, providing co-curricular Sport and Arts programmes to enhance a broad education. High proportions of students are involved in Representative Sport and students participate regularly in National Leadership and Sports fixtures through the Area Schools network. Video conferencing and online learning are available.

Relaxed, positive relationships between teachers and pupils prevail, and, in general, pupils tend to be more polite, better "socialised" and more cooperative than in many schools. There are relatively small numbers in classes at each level, effective guidance programmes linking with community agencies and quality teaching staff, with specialists in all major subjects.

The interaction of all ages in School life ensures a AFamily@ ethos upon which the character of the School has developed.

The School runs the impressive new 15,000 book Community Library and community education programmes use the school buildings, equipment and sports facilities

Beginning with the cob-built Eweburn School in 1879 and the Dungannon St. site in 1901, Maniototo Area School developed to become, in 1969, the first Area School in New Zealand, providing seamless education on one campus for both primary and secondary students from all parts of the Maniototo.
