Naseby & Surrounding Goldfields 150th Jubile

There will be a mixture of events and activities for all the family such as the Naseby Family Fun Day with a Victorian / miners theme, the walk from Naseby to Waipiata (see below), historic/guided walks, goldfields visits, 4wd visits to backcountry old gold areas, a vintage machinery day and of course the Jubilee parade followed by a variety concert with something for everyone.

Throughout the week there will be displays of family, organisation and business history at the Naseby Town Hall.  It will be open from 10.00am until 4.00pm every day so be sure to drop in and meet with some local identities, enjoy a cuppa and view the displays.

The Jubilee museum is home to a new display and the Maniototo Early Settlers museum will be open from 10.00 until 4.00pm each day.

A children’s art competition will bring colour to the town.  Pictures can be collected from the Naseby Town Hall or downloaded from the links at the bottom of this page.

There will also be the chance to purchase a selection of souvenir products.   A specially written book on the history of Naseby will also be available for purchase.

One of the key events of the Naseby and surrounding Goldfields 150th Jubilee celebrations is a unique opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the early miners who crossed the valley in search of gold.

Following the Maniototo Heritage Trail, the 19km fun walk (over closed gravel roads) is suitable for all abilities and age groups.  The iconic scenery will offer plenty of photo opportunities, and historic roadside recreations will offer fascinating windows into the past.

At the end of the trail, you’ll enjoy some special Waipiata hospitality.  There will be Cobb n’ Co stagecoach rides, tours to En Hakkore and Hamiltons Cemetery ($5 pp, children under 12 free), a historical display and slideshow and talks by local identities.  Return transport will be available from Waipiata to Naseby, at a cost of $5 per head.

Entry to the Family Fun Walk costs $5 per person (over the age of 12) and children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The event will begin at the Maniototo International Curling Rink (Channel Road) from 8.00 a.m. on Wednesday 2nd January 2013, and all participants must be on the route by 9.00 a.m. This is a non-profit event, but any proceeds remaining will be donated to The Maniototo Early Settlers Association.
