Naseby was founded in the 1860′s following the discovery of gold in the nearby Hogburn gully and grew from servicing the gold miners who flocked to Central Otago to seek their fortunes.  Today, the town is thriving as a popular holiday spot and fast becoming the ice capital of New Zealand.

Kyeburn Diggings

The goldfields at Kyeburn were known as they Kyeburn Diggings.  Mining actually started here before the main discoveries at Naseby.  All that remins of the the butcher, bakers, hotels and a school is the Kyeburn Diggings Cemetery.  However, there is still much to be learnt with a gentle stroll around.
